Obituary for Evi Britt MacDonald
MACDONALD, Evi Britt – September 14, 1945 to March 14, 2023.
Evi died peacefully at the age of 77 in the predawn hours at Victoria Hospice in Victoria, BC. Evi was predeased by her cherished, love-of-her-life husband, John Allan MacDonald, her beloved mother, Vilhelmine Piirik, and baby sister, Linda Brundle. Evi was mum to Michelle (Kelly) MacDonald and Kevin MacDonald, grandma to Keevan Webb, Brett (Maureen) MacDonald, Gabe (Vani) Webb and Caelum Webb, great-grandma to Luka Webb, sister to Ants Piirik, Molly McCart and Paul Piirik, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Evi was born in Stockholm, Sweden, later immigrating to Canada in 1950 at the age of four. Evi met John in Toronto at the tender age of 14 and they spent the rest of their lives together, working and playing in Sudbury, Ottawa and Cobourg until John passed in 2009. Evi was confident and independent, paid no attention to the status quo and was one to continually push boundaries, while always seeking perfection. She was well suited to her role as a litigation assistant for Weaver Simmons in Sudbury – boy did she love that job! Evi made no apologies for who she was – she knew what she wanted, and she went and got it! Evi was fiercely protective of her children and immensely proud of the young men that her grandchildren have become.
Evi was dignity and grace in the last few months of her life and was grateful for the regular calls and messages from friends and family that helped to sustain her in the months before she passed. Evi died a child of God and was looking forward to reuniting with John, Ville and Linda.
Evi will be forever missed and remembered in a Celebration of Life on May 20, 2023 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at 405 3210 Jacklin Road, Langford (buzzer 181). Evi was immensely grateful for the staff at Victoria Hospice who provided loving care and support for many weeks. Donations may be made to Victoria Hospice.
