Obituary for James Norman Holden

James passed peacefully in the early hours of the morning on October 27, 2020 with his wife at his side. He leaves to mourn and remember, his loving family, wife Betty, daughter Debbie (Don), grandsons Kelvin and Derek, son Jim, grandson Dustin, sister Kathleen, sisters in law Elfrieda and Mary, brother in law Edward, many wonderful nieces and nephews, as well as treasured friends.

Jim was born in Vancouver to Beatrice and Norman Holden and attended Kitsilano High School. He worked for Fleck Brothers and then was Purchasing Manager for Vancouver General Hospital. In 1978 he moved to Victoria as Purchasing Manager of Royal Jubilee Hospital and then Director of Material Management for G.V.H.S. Later he formed his own company, Optima Management, providing inventory management services within the health care sector. Health issues forced an early retirement.

There was an instant connection when Betty and Jim first met and they were married in Kauai on October 28 1981, and lived their best life in Victoria.

Jim's joys in life were boating, gardening, cooking, music, science fiction, dogs, playing poker, chocolate and afternoon naps.

Jim bravely faced his many health challenges with courage, humility and his wonderful smile.

Grateful thanks to Drs. D. Hamilton, F Edora, H Domke, the staff at Mt. Tolmie Hospital, and the Summit for their excellent care, compassion and kindness. Thanks also to family and friends for their unwavering love and support at this time and during Jim's many years of relentless illness.

There will be no service at his request. In lieu of flowers donations to the Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Rest in peace, you were dearly loved and will be forever in our hearts.

"Though we need to weep your loss
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts.
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you."
- John O'Donohue
