Obituary for Joan Bottrill

We are very sad to announce the passing of our mom, Joan, on Wednesday February 22 in Nanaimo.

Mom was born in Hastings, Sussex 95 years ago, immigrating to Vancouver in 1974, and eventually settling in Ladysmith for the the past 18 years.

She was predeceased, much too soon, by her wonderful husband Alf 43 years ago, but has lived closely with her two daughters Hazel and Heather ever since, making sure that mom was always under one of their wings when needed.

Mom attended art school in her youth, and taught informal classes in Ladysmith, as well as showed her abilities in her love of gardening and decorating, both of which she excelled.

Joan was survived by her two daughters, and one granddaughter but also her close relatives John and Sheila Richards and their families, thank you all.

Mom was blessed with a wonderful home care team, and especially Janet Bowman with who she formed a great bond.

Joan lived a long, healthy, and pain free life, and succeeded in remaining at home until her last day. It was something she always hoped she could achieve, and she did so with the help of a small army, and not least her two daughters.

A gathering of friends & family will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Oxfam or the David Suzuki Foundation would be appreciated.
