Obituary for Lawrence Phillip Vardy

In loving memory of Lawrence “Larry” Phillip Vardy, 71, who passed away peacefully on July 8, 2023, with his sister, Debe (Vardy) VanderHeide, and her husband, Rick VanderHeide, by his side.

Larry found comfort and care during the last year of his life, residing with his sister and brother in-law, who lovingly opened their home to him. Their unwavering dedication ensured his comfort and well-being until the end.

Larry was predeceased by his beloved father Oliver Lawrence Vardy, mother Catherine Irene (McKeigan) Vardy, and step-mother Maureen Teresa (Tobin) Vardy, leaving behind cherished memories of their time together. Their love and guidance shaped him into the remarkable person he became.

Larry is also survived by his girlfriend Carole-Ann Benson, her children Bill (Sandra) Benson, Tracey-Ann Benson and her grandchildren, Bowen & Maya Benson, step-grandchildren Nayimah and Tarryk Lewis and his brother John McKeigan (Ontario). He held them dear in his heart and treasured the time spent with each of them.

The passing of Larry leaves a profound void in the hearts of his extended family, including aunts, uncles, cousins and his closest of friends, who shared many treasured moments and celebrations with him.

Known for his kind and considerate nature, Larry was a beacon of warmth and compassion. He had an extraordinary ability to remember names and faces, making everyone he encountered feel seen and valued. His genuine care and thoughtfulness endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Family and friends held a special place in Larry's heart. He cherished their company and was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. His selflessness and willingness to go the extra mile to support those around him were a true testament to his generous character.

Larry's legacy of kindness, consideration, and unwavering support will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. His compassionate nature touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact and a trail of loving memories.

During his final week, Lawrence received compassionate care at the Trillium Lodge Hospice in Parksville, BC. The dedicated staff provided exceptional care and support, ensuring his comfort and dignity during this challenging time. Donations to Oceanside Hospice Society in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.

As we say goodbye to Larry, we hold onto the memories of his generous spirit, his unwavering love, and his unwavering dedication to those he held dear. His presence will be deeply missed, and the void left by his passing will be felt by all who had the privilege of sharing their lives with him.

May Larry’s soul find eternal peace, and may we find solace in the lasting impact he made on our lives.

(I found a photo of this poem while looking through photos of Larry.)
When tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand.
That an angel came and called my name,
and took me by the hand.
The angel said my place was ready, In heaven above,
And that I have to leave behind all those I dearly loved.
But when I walked through Heaven's Gate,
I felt so much at home,
for God looked down, smiled at me,
And told me "Welcome Home."
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
for every time you think of me,
I'm right there in your heart.
