Obituary for Pieternella Vis Bezemer

With deep sadness we announce the passing away of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Pieternella (Nel or Nellie) Bezemer, on March 31, 2021. She declined through the fall and winter and then died peacefully at the Victoria Hospice before she reached 91 years. Nel was predeceased by her husband Bill (Willem Bezemer) and sisters Alie, Annie, Cor and Ineke, and her brother Cor. She leaves behind her identical twin, Ida Broer-Vis and younger sister Wil Voor in't Holt-Vis in the Netherlands, her children Eric Rotgans (Raedene) and Trudy Hanlon (Terrence), grandchildren Naomi Allen (Todd), Byron Rotgans (Karen), their children Wesley and Summer, Luke Rotgans, Vincent Hanlon (Birgit), Therese Hanlon, and many nephews, nieces and family in the Netherlands. She also leaves behind her friend and stepdaughter Hester Kapteyn (Piet) and family and Bill's five sons and family in Ontario. "Oma Nel" was loved by many.

Nel was born in Enkhuizen, Netherlands on May 14, 1930. She emigrated to B.C in 1953 after marrying Vas Rotgans. Her children were born in BC and after many moves across the country, she settled in Richmond, BC. She married Bill in November 1982 and they lived in Hamilton, Ontario, wintering in Florida and eventually in 1989 settling in Abbotsford, BC. Following Bill’s death, she moved to Victoria in 2008 to be near her son and daughter. Nel will be remembered for her love of children. She loved walking on the beach by the ocean in Cordova Bay. She loved her family and followed the lives of her grandchildren closely. She enjoyed her friends and acquaintances through Cordova Bay United Church, the 55+ organization, and her 'Canadian' as well as her Dutch circle of friends.

Nel's passing leaves a hole in our lives; we will miss her.

Psalm 139: 16-18
In your book were written
All the days that were formed for me
When none of them existed....
I come to the end--I am still with you.

Psalm 139: 16-18
hoe machtig groot is hun aantal.
Zou ik ze tellen? Zij zijn talrijker dan korrels zand;

My deepest sympathy to all your family. I met Nellie thru Cordova Bay 55+. Nellie was a great lady and lots of fun to have along. She was very fond of the day and overnight trips that I planned at CB55+. She will be greatly missed. Pauline Cohen
