October 28, 1954 – January 6, 2023
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Bob after a lengthy battle with cancer. Bob was 68 and passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side. Survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Teresa, brothers; Don, Paul (Shelley), Tony (Blanche), sisters-in-law; Brenda, Christine (Curtis), Dianne, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob was loved by all who knew him. He was a wonderful and caring person that would help anyone at any time. Bob loved life and his quick-witted humour always kept us laughing. He could fix just about anything and if not sure how, would learn. Never one to hold back, he pursued his interests and dreams. This curiosity and spark for living his best life allowed him to follow a multitude of careers and hobbies. This ranged from bartending, serving in the military, being a commercial diver, pilot, aircraft maintenance technician, and working in protection services for the Greater Victoria hospitals. Above all, his favourite career was as a firefighter with the Edmonton Fire Department for 10 years.
Bob was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2015 and after surgery and radiation he was given the terrifying news that his life expectancy would be approximately 6-7 months. However, Bob was a fighter and would not give in. He fought a tough battle, but the journey became more difficult these last few months. However, he was determined and made it into the New Year.
We would like to thank the numerous oncologists that cared for Bob; the doctors and nurses from Hospital at Home, Community Health Services, and Hospice Palliative Care for their compassionate care. Thanks to all our family and friends for their love and support over the years! As per Bob’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC SPCA in memory of Bob.
