Obituary for Tina Mae Marshall (Knowles)

Tina Mae Marshall (nee Knowles) 05 September 1960 - 06 May 2022

It is with sadness that Tina’s family announces her passing. She took her last breath, surrounded by her family, with hands being held and words of love being spoken, at 2:16 PM Friday 06 May 2022. On this cloudy Victoria afternoon she left behind a body that had served her well but failed her much too early. Now free of the pain, she leaves behind her spirit and the memories that will live on with her family and friends always.

Tina is survived by her husband, Dean Marshall, daughter, Chantelle Middleton (Lee), father and step-mother, Barry and Chris Knowles, sister Candice Wyma (Brad), and beloved grandchildren Jacob Calestagne and Adelaide Middleton. She also leaves behind a loving extended family and dear friends.

Tina was born and raised in Victoria BC and though briefly moved away, could never imagine living away from her island home.

Tina’s defining attributes included kindness, integrity, loyalty, honor, humility and pride. She had a strong internal moral compass and believed that one always had to do the right thing, even if it was the harder option.

Tina worked for the provincial government for 27 years before her retirement in 2017. She started as a clerk, obtained her business degree through years of night classes, ending her career as a Procurement and Contract Specialist serving several Ministries.

Tina was an avid gardener and sun worshiper who filled her house each early spring with plant starters and later with her bounty of fresh cut flowers. One of her favourite things was to cut fresh sunflower heads and put them in a bucket of water on the curbside with a handwritten big smiley face and “Free” She loved spending time with family and friends and was always ready with a smile or a word of encouragement. Tina loved motorcycling and enjoyed many long road trips on the back of her husband’s Harley throughout Vancouver Island and BC’s interior.

Thanks to the caring staff at Saanich Peninsula and Royal Jubilee Hospitals, especially to Dr. Lorenzo, Dr. Wayne Demott and Dr. Jessica Belle.

A small private ceremony with friends and family will be held this summer in her sunflower garden. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salvation Army.
